1. The course of the competition

 

The choirs must present a video that contains a composition from one of four periods of 20th and 21st century and was written by composer of choir's origin. For performances of pieces written in individual periods there will be special prizes (see Special prizes).

 

Periods:

  • 1900–1945 
  • 1946–1990 
  • 1991– February 2018
  • March 2018 (new work) –

 

In addition to the quality of the performance of the composition, the choirs should also pay attention to the concept and innovation of video production

 

Foreign choirs can participate in one of the categories (A, B, C) by making one video and / or in Category D - music of contemporary Slovenian composers (see Astrum Award). Slovenian choirs can participate in one of the categories (A, B, C) and by making one video.

 

2. Competitive part

 

Categories:

 

CATEGORY A - Choirs up to 27 years (10 % of the singers can be one year older)

  • The composition must be written in 20th or 21st century.
  • Composition must be at least for four voices.
  • The maximum total video time allowed is 6 minutes.
  • Composition must be performed a cappella. Use of non-melodic percussion is allowed.

 

 

CATEGORY B - Youth choirs up to 19 years (10 % of the singers can be one year older)

  • The composition must be written in 20th or 21st century.
  • Composition must be at least for three voices.
  • The maximum total video time allowed is 5 minutes.
  • Composition must be performed a cappella. Use of non-melodic percussion is allowed.

 

 

CATEGORY C - Childrens choirs up to 15 years (10 % of the singers can be one year older)

  • The composition must be written in 20th or 21st century
  • Composition must be at least for two voices.
  • The maximum total video time allowed is 5 minutes.
  • Composition must be performed a cappella or with a melodic instrumental accompaniment. It is only allowed if it is intended in the original copy of the piece.

 

 

CATEGORY D - The ASTRUM music publishing prize

Foreign choirs can participate in the category by making a video in which a composition by a Slovenian composer is recorded.

• The composition must be written in the 20th or 21st century.

• The composition can be polyphonic, but it must be at least three-part.

• The maximum total video time allowed is 5 minutes.

• The composition can be performed with melodic instrumental accompaniment. It is allowed if it is provided in the original of the selected song.

 

 

GRAND PRIX ''AEGIS CARMINIS'' COMPETITION  2021

 

The jury will select the best video of all submitted videos.

 

Evaluation criteria:

  • song performance quality,
  • thoughtfulness of the concept,
  • innovative video production.
