The conductor of the University of Primorska Academic Choir Ambrož Čopi has introduced ideas for celebrating the 15th anniversary of the choir and also the 10th anniversary of the Simfonic voices international vocal and instrumental music cycle.
Čopi introduced the ideas and the basis of the new festival at a meeting with staff members of the Public Fund for Cultural Activities (Mihela Jagodic – head of choral activities and Urška Bittner Pipan - assistant director of JSKD), Academy of Music of the University of Ljubljana representatives (associate professor, dean Marko Vatovec and head of the conducting department assistant professor Sebastjan Vrhovnik) and conductor Stojan Kuret, assistant professor at Conservatorio Tartini in Trieste.
In a constructive debate, guidelines for the new festival were formed. The international competition for conductors is to be held in two categories. The purpose of the category for youth choir conductors is to encourage young musicians to extend their knowledge and also realize the importance of quality conductors in schools, which ultimately plays an important role in building the choral pyramid in the future. The international choral competition is to be held in three categories: children's/youth choirs with children up to 15 years old, high school choirs with students up to 19 years old and student choirs with students up to 27 years old.
One of the purposes of the festival is also to promote music of the 20th and 21st century and to encourage creation and performance of new pieces. For this purpose, a call for new Slovenian choral pieces will be issued.
